Receiver -- The part of a firearm, usually serial numbered, that all the other parts such as the barrel, trigger and magazine are attached to. -- Nov. 1, 2012


Recoil operated -- A semiautomatic or fullautomatic firearm that relies on the recoil generated upon firing to operate its mechanism. One of the first commonly available commercial firearms that used recoil operation for its mechanism was the Browning Auto-5 semiautomatic shotgun, introduced in 1903 by Fabrique Nationale of Herstal, Belgium. The Browning M2 .50 caliber heavy machinegun is also recoil operated and almost 100 years after its unveiling, it is still widely used by military forces all across the world. -- Sept. 24, 2013


Remington, Eliphalet II (b. Oct. 28, 1793 d. July 12, 1861) -- Founder of Remington Arms Company. Eliphalet Remington II was initially a barrel maker but as his business grew, his company eventually made all types of firearms. The Remington Firearms Company was originally called Remingtons but in 1837, the company name was changed to E. Remington & Son when Philo Remington went to work for his father. The company was renamed E. Remington & Sons in 1856 with the final change to Remington Arms Company being made in 1888. -- October 3, 2015*


Remington Model 7188 -- Experimental, selective-fire version of the 12 gauge Remington Model 1100 shotgun. -- March 10, 2013


Roll crimp -- A method used to seal the mouth of a shotgun hull that incorporates the use of an overshot wad. In practice, the overshot wad is placed above the shot column and the mouth of the shotgun hull is forced down and inward against the wad using a special tool known as a roll crimper. -- August 20, 2017*


Round ball -- Spherical projectile most often used in muzzleloading firearms and airguns. Round balls are traditionally made of pure lead but ITX currently offers lead-free, nontoxic round balls that are suitable for use in muzzleloaders. -- December 19, 2016*
